Furnace Replacement in Airdrie

Replacing a furnace is mostly a set of decisions made before anyone picks up a wrench: whether the old one is really finished, what goes in its place, and what else in the mechanical room changes when it comes out. This page walks through those decisions for Airdrie homes.

The furnaces we're asked to replace in Airdrie are usually the ones the house was built with. On a home finished in the mid-2000s, that furnace is past twenty, and the question has shifted from which part failed to whether it's worth buying another one. If yours has only just stopped and nobody has looked at it yet, start with Airdrie furnace repair. Plenty of builder-grade furnaces still have years in them.

When replacement is the right call, we quote it on-site and in writing at no charge, with the model, the efficiency, and the venting and gas work spelled out. How the install itself is done, from sizing to commissioning, is covered on our furnace installation in Airdrie page.

We dispatch from both Airdrie and Calgary, and Airdrie calls are usually handled locally, subject to availability. Call 587-834-3668. Monthly financing is available through Financeit.

Signs an Airdrie Furnace Is Due for Replacement

None of these settles it on its own. Two or three together usually do.

It's around twenty years old

Furnaces from Airdrie's mid-2000s building years are about twenty now. Age alone doesn't fail a furnace, but it means the parts that haven't been replaced yet are the same age as the ones that have.

The repair quote is for an expensive part

A blower motor, a control board or a gas valve on an old furnace is where the math changes. We give you the repair price next to the replacement price so the comparison is in front of you, not in your head.

Parts are no longer made

Some boards and motors on older builder-grade models have been discontinued. A universal part may work or it may not, and it's worth knowing which before you spend on it.

A cracked heat exchanger

This is a safety problem, not a cost question. A cracked exchanger can let carbon monoxide into the air the blower circulates. We don't patch them, and we show you what we found before recommending anything.

Cold rooms: furnace or ducts?

A bedroom over the garage that has always been cold is often a duct or insulation problem, not a furnace one. Mention it before the quote so nobody expects a new furnace to fix something it can't.

What Changes When the Old Furnace Comes Out

On a like-for-like swap, very little. On an older mid-efficiency furnace, more than most people expect.

Venting moves to plastic pipe

Gas furnaces built from 2010 onward have had to meet a 90% efficiency minimum in Canada, so any replacement is a condensing furnace. Some Airdrie homes from before then were built with mid-efficiency furnaces venting up a metal flue. A condensing furnace vents through plastic pipe, usually out a side wall, and we choose a termination spot clear of windows, decks and the places snow drifts.

The water heater may need its own vent work

If the old furnace shared a chimney with a gas water heater, the water heater is left on its own in a flue sized for two. Sometimes that's fine; sometimes it needs a liner, or the water heater needs replacing too. We check before quoting, and if your hot water tank is near the end anyway, doing both together saves a second visit.

A condensate drain

Condensing furnaces produce water. It needs a route to a floor drain, or a small pump where there isn't one close by, and the line has to stay out of unheated space where it can freeze.

Gas line and permit

A different furnace can draw a different amount of gas. Our Alberta-licensed gas fitters check the line size, and the gas permit and inspection are part of the job.

Townhouses and shared walls

In a townhouse or duplex, a new side-wall vent may have limited places it can go, and some condominium boards want to approve a new wall penetration. If that applies to you, check with the board early.

Choosing What Goes In Its Place

Most Airdrie replacements are furnace for furnace. These are the choices inside that, and the alternatives worth a look.

Single-stage, two-stage or modulating

All three are condensing, high-efficiency furnaces. The difference is how they run between off and full fire: a single-stage furnace is either running flat out or not at all, while a modulating one adjusts in small steps. More stages cost more up front and give steadier temperatures. We'll tell you whether the extra spend makes sense in your house.

Brand

We install the major brands sold in Alberta and we're an authorized AirEase dealer. We recommend by fit and by the warranty terms on the specific model, and we explain what keeping that warranty valid requires.

Air conditioning, now or later

An AC coil sits on top of the furnace. If you're planning to add air conditioning in the next few years, it's worth leaving room for it now, or doing both while the mechanical room is open.

A heat pump alongside the furnace

A cold-climate heat pump paired with a new gas furnace covers the milder part of the season on electricity and hands over to the furnace in deep cold. Whether it pays off depends on the house and your utility rates, so we quote it as a separate option if you want to compare.

The humidifier

If the old furnace had a humidifier, it gets reconnected to the new one, or replaced if it's worn out. If it didn't, whole-home humidification is easiest to add during the changeover.

Furnace Replacement Cost in Airdrie

As of September 2026, furnace replacement runs $4,500 to $9,600 installed. Our pricing is the same in Airdrie as in Calgary.

Toward the low end

A single-stage high-efficiency furnace replacing an existing condensing furnace, where the venting, gas line and ductwork can all be reused.

Toward the high end

A modulating furnace, or a changeover from mid-efficiency that needs new venting, a larger gas line and a condensate route.

Rebates and financing

The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan are both closed to new applicants. If we know of a program that's open when we quote, we'll mention it, but check its current terms directly. Financing through Financeit is available.

Airdrie Furnace Replacement FAQs

How much does furnace replacement cost in Airdrie?

$4,500 to $9,600 installed, as of September 2026. Swapping a high-efficiency furnace for a single-stage model sits near the bottom of that range; a modulating furnace, or a mid-efficiency changeover that needs new venting, sits near the top.

We give you the exact figure in a written quote after we've seen the furnace, the venting and the gas line. The quote is free.

Is it worth replacing a twenty-year-old furnace that still works?

Not automatically. A furnace that runs well, passes its safety checks and hasn't needed major parts can keep going. The case for replacing early is planning: you choose the unit and the date, instead of the furnace choosing them for you in the middle of winter.

If you want a read on its condition without committing to anything, furnace maintenance in Airdrie includes the combustion and safety checks that tell you most of what you need to know.

Can I replace the furnace and keep my water heater?

Usually, yes. The question is venting. If the two shared a chimney, the water heater needs a safe vent of its own once the furnace moves to plastic pipe. We check that before quoting and include any vent work in the price.

How long does a furnace replacement take?

A straightforward changeover is usually one day. New venting, a gas line change or ductwork alterations can stretch it to two. The quote tells you which to expect.

Should I put in a heat pump instead of a new furnace?

In Airdrie it's usually alongside rather than instead. Most hybrid setups keep a gas furnace for the coldest nights and let the heat pump handle the milder part of the heating season.

We can quote furnace-only and hybrid side by side. Heat pumps in Airdrie explains the options.

How is this different from your furnace installation page?

This page is about deciding to replace and choosing what goes in. Furnace installation in Airdrie covers how the work is done: sizing, venting, gas and commissioning. Same team, same quote.

Are you local to Airdrie?

Yes. Jason Mounsey, one of FlameTech's two owners, is based in Airdrie, and we dispatch from both Airdrie and Calgary. Airdrie calls are usually handled locally, subject to availability.

How an Airdrie furnace replacement goes

Simple, honest, on your schedule.

Most of the work that decides how a replacement turns out happens before changeover day.

01

Tell us what's prompting it

The furnace's age, any repair quotes you've had, and what made you start asking. A photo of the rating plate inside the furnace door helps.

02

An honest look at the old one

We check the furnace, its venting, the gas line and the water heater beside it, and tell you whether replacement is warranted or a repair will do.

03

Options in writing

If replacing makes sense, you get the unit, efficiency, venting and gas scope, permit and price in writing. Where it's useful we quote more than one option so you can compare.

04

Changeover day

The old furnace comes out and the new one goes in, usually in one day. New venting or a gas line change can add a second. We commission it and show you the controls before we leave.
