Insulation moves the number more than you'd think
An uninsulated detached double needs roughly half again the BTU of an insulated one to hold the same temperature on a cold day. The fix is not running the heater more. It's a pre-season service call in September or October, before you need it.
Dust destroys blower motors
Sawdust, road grit, drywall debris, brake dust. Garage air filters clog far faster than a house filter — often monthly during a heavy workshop season. A clogged filter restricts airflow, the blower works harder, the capacitor fails first and the motor follows. Changing the filter is the single highest-value thing you can do yourself.
Snow and drift block vent terminations
