Apply now

We're hiring a plumbing apprentice to work out of Calgary. You'd be on residential jobs every day: basements, mechanical rooms, bathrooms, the odd crawlspace. You'd work next to the Red Seal journeyman plumbers who run those jobs.

FlameTech is a small, owner-run shop. That means you won't spend a year carrying fittings for someone who never explains why. You'll see a job from the first look at the problem to the final test, and you'll be asked to do more of it as you show you can.

The work

What you'd be working on

  • Hot water tank and tankless water heater installs and swaps
  • Furnace replacements, plus boiler and in-floor heating work
  • Poly-B repipes, often in finished homes where the drywall has to be opened and closed with care
  • Fixture installs and repairs: toilets, faucets, showers, garburators
  • Water softener and reverse osmosis installs
  • Drain clearing and the everyday service calls that fill the gaps
Who we're looking for

What matters to us

  • You show up on time and you call ahead when you can't. Homeowners plan their day around us.
  • You can work in tight spaces, on ladders and in unfinished basements, and you can help move a water heater or a furnace.
  • You treat someone's home with respect: boot covers on, drop sheets down, nothing left behind.
  • You ask when you're not sure. A question is cheaper than a leak.
  • A valid driver's licence, because jobs move between Calgary and Airdrie.
  • Any experience helps, whether it's a pre-apprenticeship course, a period or two already done, or general construction work. It isn't required. Tell us where you're at.
Your apprenticeship

Hours that count toward your ticket

Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Alberta, and the route to a journeyman ticket is a four-year apprenticeship: hours on the job with a qualified journeyman, plus a block of technical training each year.

The job hours you work with us count toward that apprenticeship. When you've finished your periods and passed the exam, you earn the Red Seal, and it's recognised in every province.

If you're already registered and part-way through, bring your record book or your hours. We'll pick up where you are.

Apply

Send us a few lines.

No cover letter needed. Tell us who you are and where you are with the trade. Some things are better settled face to face, so we'll go over these when we meet:

  • Pay and how it changes as you progress
  • Hours and how school blocks fit around work
  • Tools, travel between jobs and what a normal week looks like
